TREE STUDY, after Gustav Corbet (Wallace Collection)

On a visit to the Wallace Collection in central London I did a sketch study of Gustav Corot’s deep landscape painting ‘Macbeth, 1858-9’,  which Corot used as a setting for a scene from Macbeth. I dropped the figures to focused on the landscape.

I’d like to find time (and the skill!) to work on a second version with the figures which included Macbeth, Macduff, 2 horses and 3 witches!

The original painting was exhibited at the Paris Salon and was admired by Claude Monet. it was one of the Wallace collections most popular works but is in fact rather dark and hard to read, maybe a restoration would be helpful?
